Main steps towards the European Cultural Route of Reformation

Plzen, May 9-10 2017

During the project meeting held in Plzen in May 2017, the partnership took crucial steps in deciding that the European Cultural Route of Reformation would become an "archipelago" route and its managing body an association.

Based on the cultural route types identified by the European Institute of Cultural Routes, "archipelago" routes (also called "virtual routes") have a common theme but no territorial continuity and form a network of points of interest under a common narrative and story.

The route should include individual sites and points of interest, but also already existing trails (linear routes), that generally used for travel, trade, or are linked to historical events and processes. This diversity and the large geographical coverage expected to be represented by the route are unique and add remarkable value to the project. The partnership, which presents uniquely individual perspectives on Reformation, values the importance of bringing different stakeholders together and actively involve them from the very beginning. The framework of the future route, as well as the shared narrative, will be positively influenced by this diversity and will highlight the various aspects of Reformation and its related cultural heritage. To manage the future route, the partnership agreed on the creation of an official association registered in one of the partner countries. Its task shall be to oversee the daily activities and ensure the success and sustainability of the route.
