Lynx monitoring training in Friuli Venezia Giulia

In the light of the reinforcement of the Dinaric SE-Alpine lynx population, an expansion into Friuli is likely within the next years. Therefore, on 15. April 2019 a training course was held for members of the regional Forest Service of Friuli Venezia Giulia by Progetto Lince Italia and Carabinieri Forestali. The focus of the training course was put on the identification of lynx signs and monitoring activities. Although lynx is the rarest mammal of Italy, potentially a lynx can reach any place in the Friulian Alps. The distance from the Italian border to the core population in the Slovenian Dinaric Mountains is only 40 km, while the longest reported dispersal in the Alps is 200 km. The training course was attended by 31 participants from the 3Lynx project area.
