TAKING CENTRAL EUROPE FORWARD

Our regions and cities face many challenges that are same and that do not stop at borders.
With our funding we help them work together beyond borders to ultimately become more attractive places to live in. We encourage and support cooperation in central Europe on crucial and urgent topics.

2020 was not an easy year to work together across borders and to focus on results, but our projects managed. They continued to deliver solutions for regional challenges that have become even more pressing in current times. These efforts did not go unnoticed, and in October one of our projects ENERGY@SCHOOL won a REGIOSTARS AWARDS, demonstrating that excellence and new approaches in regional development are possible despite difficult situation we found ourselves in.

And also thanks to this joint drive the programme implementation reached and surpassed all physical and financial targets set for the year.

One of the main tasks in 2020 was also to look ahead. The preparation of the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme 2021-2027 was well underway. The Interreg Programme (IP) document was developed building on a thorough territorial analysis as well as taking into account inputs and recommendations given by more than 1.000 relevant partners involved in the design of the programme strategy and intervention logic.

PROJECT RESULTS

"Cohesion policy remains the beating heart of European solidarity. We now need to fill it with content and prioritise the investments that will turn all these achievements into real change..." said Elisa Ferreira, EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms.

Our 138 projects have been cooperating in the past years to bring this real change to central European regions. So if you face a challenge in your region, you might not have to start from scratch. Do not reinvent the wheel and benefit from the results of our cooperation projects.

With more than 40 projects successfully implemented and another 20 in last stages of their implementation, vast amount of results of their joint work is already available in our output library.

INTERREG CENTRAL EUROPE 2021-27

Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE has supported transnational cooperation in central Europe for more than 20 years. Since 2018 we have been taking our cooperation forward again. Together with our partners we want to make sure that also in the next programming period 2021-27 we can continue to proudly say that #cooperationiscentral for a better future.

In 2020, first draft of the Interreg Programme (IP) document was developed building on a territorial analysis as well as taking into account inputs and recommendations given by more than 1.000 relevant partners involved in the design of the programme strategy and intervention logic.

The preparation of the new programme also benefitted from the first outcomes of the ESPON targeted analysis on “Spatial dynamics and integrated territorial development scenarios for the functional area of central Europe”. The analysis aims at the development of transnational policy actions and tools effective for the integrated territorial development of future central Europe, thereby supporting transnational, national and regional policy interventions in the area.
